Sustainability Is Key. Join The Pledge.

Recently, during the past year, many brands have started to realise the impact of plastic pollution and have 'pledged' to eliminate plastic within their brands. During October 2018 high-end brands such as Stella McCartney and Burberry and even more affordable brands like H&M by signing a commitment to the Plastic Economy, this is astounding news to read and brings joy to a company like Oceans as it shows that even a brand with such a large platform of consumers and a strong reputation believes that plastic pollution is a huge subject that not only needs talking about but changing.

The Plastics Economy Global Commitment created a committee that has the main focus of getting rid of as much plastic as possible. The Government of the United Kingdom is only one of over 290 that have now joined the plastic global commitment including the brands listed above to pledge that they have no use of single-use plastic and any sort of plastic that is seen as unnecessary.

The idea is to have 'New Plastics Economy' which focuses on eliminating all unneeded plastic items, innovate the plastic that is used to make sure it is easily recycled and can then be reused again and again and finally, to circulate all items used currently to keep them in the economy rather than in the ocean or landfills. The video below is from the New Plastics Economy website that explains what happens to the current plastic used, how much it is costing the economy and how the world can change this.

The video explains that only 14% of global packaging is recycled so by producing, using and recovering plastic already created rather than making more will be extremely beneficial to not only the economy but also the environment. Oceans makes sure that no plastic is used throughout the company when it comes to not only the making of the products but also how the products then get transported and shipped for delivery. The company uses recyclable cardboard only and aspires to also come up with new products for the future to replace the pointless single-use plastic that is used on a daily basis.
