Keep It Clean. The Facts

Hopefully, after reading this post it'll bring the realisation to how much plastic is used and the damaging effects it has now had on the planet. Plastic came about in the early 1900s and became extremely popular in the 1960s, the idea of being able to package something in plastic that was then advertised to be thrown away and made into another piece of packaging was fascinating to the world. Most companies started using plastic to package their products as it keeps whatever inside air-tight to last longer or to be able to carry the products in and it has only become apparent now to the world that not all plastic is being recycled correctly.

One of the strongest facts that came as a shock was that in 2017 plastic bottles managed to make up 67% of a households rubbish in the UK alone, according to Brita 36 million plastic bottles were used every day in the UK but out of that over 5.5 billion plastic bottles were not collected to be recycled which has alternately lead to the issue at hand that we are trying to now solve. The plastic bags that you purchase for 5p from a supermarket usually end up in the ocean and with just that type of plastic, manages to get inside and kill over 1 million sea creatures every single year.

World Economic Forum created a minute long video that shows some extremely eye-opening images of actual evidence of where our plastic ends up, have a watch and see if it has any impact on your views of single-use plastic and what it has done to our oceans so far?

So why are we here? By selling our clothes we make sure that the money from the consumers isn't all profitable, we obviously need money to keep the business up and running but other than that, the rest goes to Plastic Oceans. The organisation focuses on reducing and getting rid of the plastic waste through their science, education and sustainability programs, these programs help inform and work around cleaning up the oceans or stopping the problem of plastic waste falling into the ocean. Our clothes are all made from cotton and we make sure that anything that's sent out is done in a sustainable way, by using cardboard boxes and recyclable paper bags it means that no source of plastic is used to produce or package our products and we hope that within the next year we will be able to introduce other sustainable products that can be used on a day-to-day basis in replacing plastic.
